I have a small handful of the generic equivalents this stuff right now in my collection. It's all collection because generic brand phentermine has gotten expensive and is generally not found in bulk prices. I've done some experiments that can probably be useful for anyone with ADHD as well other disorders. This is based on research from the lab called Institute for Safe Medication Practices at Johns Hopkins in which my colleague, Dr. John Yudofsky, and I have been working in collaboration with the research team there.
Here is what I've found:
1) If the drug contains caffeine, I recommend using the generic version, as you will likely experience less anxiety and sleep problems than the drug containing caffeine. That said, they are nearly identical. If you taking methylphenidate, there is no difference between generic and branded phentermine except for dosage (more is slightly better). Also, I've found that people who take both methylphenidate and generic version have more difficulty going to sleep after taking the generic because it's much more soluble. So I'd only recommend taking generic if you are methylphenidate and extremely sensitive to the Buy adipex p online solubility issues.
The generic version is supposed to produce roughly the same level of alertness as the brand (a little worse than the generic version but on par with the brand, for average person who takes a daily dose).
2) If you have trouble falling asleep at night, or are in a deep sleep state but are also unable to go sleep or awaken, you can use generic phentermine instead of methylphenidate in this case. While usually will be very difficult to fall asleep after, many of the times when I use generic it doesn't help me fall asleep after.
If you are taking a generic for ADD, you should definitely consider this option. In my experience, generic has worked as a better option for my patients in the following situations:
People who can fall asleep quickly with little or no effort, but are not willing or able to wake up fully in the night.
People with ADD who want to be awake in the day but are able to fall asleep in the evening.
People with ADD who have a difficult time going to sleep (not enough sleep), but have good daytime functioning.
3) If you are taking a methylphenidate product or you have been taking it for longer than one year, you should consider switching brands. I've seen a fair number of people who switched brands but then eventually had to return the original brand, sometimes in order to get the full effects of medication. This happened to me and a friend, so do consider this your cautionary note. (My friend got into some trouble with the FDA in her return, so she no longer uses the generic phentermine, which is why I recommend this over generic.)
One note: You might be able to get the original Ritalin or Adderall brand if you have an office (or if the pharmacies do not sell generic). The fact that same brand is packaged with the same tablets, but medication does not contain caffeine, means that this may work as an alternative to some people who are sensitive to that ingredient. In addition, Ritalin and Adderall have the added benefit of being free the amphetamine ingredient, which I find a huge comfort in the fact that amphetamine has so many positive effects. I use the generic version.
4) If you do not like the generic version you can find the generic version with caffeine added in. Many pharmacies sell these types of pills, so my guess would be you can just ask your pharmacist. There are not nearly as many problems with the pills, and there are more options. These tablets contain about the same concentration of caffeine as the generic versions do, so if you choose to use this option you can go with the generic version. Also, while version is cheaper than buying the original medication, it is not really as effective. If you are looking at the generic version and you do not have a prescription, just don't use it. For my own convenience I used the more expensive generic version in this article. It's cheaper, and they are usually available where I live (they are just not as easily found the brand version of stimulants).
5) It's worth noting that there are more adverse effects on generic than the branded medications as well, such stomach problems, diarrhea, and vomiting. I've had my symptoms worsen when I haven't taken the medication bought and instead taken a generic.
So there you have it. Generic phentermine is a solid medication and it's worth choosing it over the branded version, if your ADHD is controlled and symptoms are being managed. I'll continue to keep my eyes on the generic and hopefully.
