Discussion
A growing body of evidence suggests that the acute administration of ketamine is useful for treating treatment-resistant depression.1 example, preliminary clinical trials demonstrate a significant improvement in depression following the acute administration of intravenous and intramuscular ketamine (see above, eFigure).

Role of ketamine in unmedicated and unresponsive adolescents with treatment-resistant depressive symptoms
Our earlier study5 used a randomized, double-blind design in patients referred for the treatment of unmedicated treatment-resistant depression. Ketamine was administered either intravenously or intramuscularly and compared to other sedatives (bupropion, haloperidol and clomipramine) using a 4-point rating scale (Table 6).
